As a Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), we are responsible for commissioning (planning and buying) a wide range of local health services for people living in the city of Southampton.
Every GP practice in the city is a member of the CCG and they have elected six local doctors to represent them on the Governing Body of the CCG. The 32 member GP practices work in three localities to keep a local focus.
By involving doctors and healthcare professionals in the planning of health services, their clinical knowledge means better outcomes for patients. Family doctors (GPs) are also well placed to understand what services patients need as nearly all patients go to their GP before accessing any health services.
