Description
The Parkinson's disease service provides a multidisciplinary service for people with movement disorders in Southampton and the surrounding areas.
Our catchment area includes Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Dorset and South Wiltshire.
Community based clinics
Clinics are led by consultant physicians for older people. They are typically for individuals over the age of fifty five with Parkinson´s disease and other movement disorders.
Through many of these clinics there is access to other local services including:
´Parkinson´s disease specialist nurse
´Physiotherapy
´Occupational therapy
´Speech and language therapy
´Dieticians
´Social services
Referral Criteria
For health professionals: referrals to Wessex Neurological Centre
If you have a patient who you suspect has ParkinsonĀ“s disease or is already diagnosed you can refer them to us using our referral form (for suspected cases please refer untreated). We aim to see patients with new or suspected ParkinsonĀ“s disease within six weeks of receiving the referral form. Patients who have already been diagnosed will be seen within two weeks if it is urgent or later if it is for a general review or check-up. It is therefore important that you include as much information as possible in your referral.
